Description
After viewing some of John Singer Sargent's watercolor work, I was very impressed with the simple strokes for water, reflection and shadows. His use of light colors and LIGHT! Yes, he was a master of painting light, leaving the paper alone for the paper to show through, something I am wanting to learn. This painting is another imaginary painting of a water scene, mountains and trees.

Can't imagine anyone better than Sargent to turn to for inspiration on something like this - unless it's Constable...lol. You've certainly done him justice here. Lovely watercolor Alli. F/L T

Thanks so much Lianne! I do love Sargent's work. Some of his watercolors are on view now at the HMFA. Fascinating! He thought little of his watercolors as show pieces, obviously he was portrait paid artist. I understand that he was reluctant to show his watercolors but an admirer here in the states wanted to show a body of them in NY? I believe it was there. This was in the 1900s. So, he did but with the agreement that this work had to be matted with a simple white matt and framed with a simple frame and the work had to have a uniform theme throughout. Thanks so much!! xoxo
